I’ll just start off saying that the kids love this ‘holiday’! Violet has been looking forward to it for a while, and Hayden, well, he’s working on saying it. “Birfdaytines” is what he said all day at daycare – which sounds just as adorable as you would imagine it sounds.
We decided to ‘celebrate’ Valentines Day last night with the kids since we knew that today would be overloaded with sugar and happiness (we weren’t wrong). Mike picked up some adorable cupcakes and some chocolates for us all to share and it was a big hit.
I was informed yesterday that the other moms were baking things for today for the kids at daycare. Am I supposed to do that too? Well, regardless, I didn’t. We did, however, send valentines with temporary animal tattoos for the other kids. That went over really well, all the kids loved them. Once I got to daycare today to pick up the kids they had had cookies, pink candy corn, and chocolate. Daycare is saving the cupcakes for tomorrow (at least she’s trying to moderate the unhealthy-ness!). They were also given some adorable mylar balloons.
Getting a picture of the kids with the balloons was another story. Mike even tried to tie Hayden’s balloon to some toilet paper (which he loved) but it didn’t help with the photo op. He threw the balloon (and tp) down the stairs and promptly removed the balloon so he could just play with the toilet paper. The balloon went up to the ceiling above the stairs. Luckily, Mike is very tall.
This afternoon, I went to pick up my glasses since I’ve been wearing them broken for the past few days and decided to stop in at the bookstore next door. I had attempted to go there numerous times, but their hours are really sad for those who work full time. It only took me several years before I have actually stepped foot in the store. Needless to say, I managed to pick up a few books: one for each kid (Where’s the Green Sheep and Bats at the Beach) and one for Mike (a bread cookbook!). I think they liked them. Hayden wasn’t too interested in his new book as soon as he saw Goodnight Gorilla, which we read 4 times.
Here’s Hayden, all ready for bed in his hand-me-down heart pajama pants and pink pacifier. We can say for sure that we are doing our best to avoid getting our kids pigeon holed into some gender stereotypes. Hayden loves his heart pajama pants.
OH, before I forget – the kids both LOVED their bookmarks and cards from grandpas and grandmas they were able to open today! Hayden had me read him his firetruck Valentines Day card many times, and Violet made some signs with her stickers. The bookmarks have already found their way into a couple books as well.
I checked out the website for the Book Bug. I'm impressed. Next time we're in K'zoo, it's on my list – and close to the top – just above Panera! Gammy.
