For a while, both kids were healthy for an extended period of time. This all ended when I went to Puerto Rico. After I left, I found out that Violet and Hayden both had a respiratory bug. Needless to say, they didn’t sleep very well. Hayden started getting better last week and is now pretty much back to his normal self. Violet on the other hand is still under the weather.
Rather than coughing, she decided to switch it up to vomiting. This started last Friday and continued through Monday. I took her to the doctor on Tuesday morning because she woke up very lethargic and in pain pointing to her belly button with the runs. After reading the book we had on kids diseases, it looked like Violet may have appendicitis.
Violet and I went to the doctor and it turns out that it was not appendicitis. The doctor swabbed Violet’s throat for strep and had her pee in a cup (Violet was very excited about this since she had never done it before.). We waited a couple of minuets in the office and the swab came back positive for strep.
Don’t ask me why strep THROAT made Violet yack and poop, but it did. The doctor gave us a prescription for an antibiotic and we were off to Meijer. The antibiotic helped the vomiting, but this afternoon, it cranked the diarrhea machine into overdrive. Now Violet is complaining of stomach pains due to diarrhea and going to the bathroom every 30 minutes.
I called the doctor tonight, and he said to stop the antibiotics and see how the strep does without them. He was concerned that the antibiotics would lead to c-diff. Hopefully the antibiotics killed the strep but didn’t cause too much havoc the good bugs in Violets gut.
If it’s not one thing, it’s another…
