Some days, I seriously wish I had a tape recorder going all of the time to record my kids talking. I had always heard that ‘kids say the darndest things’ – but you really don’t notice it until you have kids of your own.
This morning was filled with great ones…
Violet: You know what you deserve today, mom?
Me: Hm, nope, what?
Violet: A big hug. (proceeds to give me a hug). And new shoes – those are dirty. Would you like new shoes?
Me: (smiling, of course) Sure, I like shoes.
Violet: Well, sorry, it’s not your birthday, so you don’t really get new shoes. Maybe someday!
Violet: (yelling at Hayden) You get over here, right now!
Me: Violet, that’s not your job. I’ll make sure your brother gets in the car.
Violet: (angry) Ugh! I wish I were a grown up so I could tell people what to do!
Me: That’s not all that being a grown up is about; being a grown up is hard sometimes!
Violet: What does a grown up do?
Me: Grown ups do lots! I go to work, I make sure you and your brother are okay, I cook and lots of other things.
Violet: I just like the part where you tell people what to do. Not me, just Hayden.
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
