Yesterday afternoon, Hayden, Violet and I went to the park while Mike installed some edging around a new garden in our front yard. We learned that while my help is beneficial, the help of the two kids pretty much negates anything that I could contribute – so we left.
We had a great time at the park. It turned out to be such a beautiful day. The kids spent a long time playing with some rocks and Violet was stacking them and Hayden knocked them down. I had to convince her that it was a game so she wouldn’t get too angry with him. Hayden decided that dropping stones down the ‘wishing well’ was funner anyway, so it all worked out. We also brought the soccer ball so we could kick it around the hockey area and score some goals.
After a bit, we decided to head over to the school. The kids are getting so grown up now. They both played together all over the playground and chased each other and raced down the slides. We even had a dance party in the school’s Ga-Ga Pit to the soundtrack of Rio (which is their favorite movie, by the way – they loved it so much, we bought the sound track and that is all they want to watch/listen to…).
Hayden would climb up to the top of the slide and Violet would yell up at him, he would yell down at her, and they would race back to the other side of the playground. It was nice that I didn’t have to keep up with them the whole time!
At one point, both kids were riding the dinosaur. Hayden was ‘roaring’ and Violet was laughing so hard I was worried that we wouldn’t make it to the bathroom in time. It was good fun.
After several hours of playing, we walked back to home for dinner. Mike was grilling chicken and as we got closer, we could smell it. Dinner was homemade QDoba: Jasmine rice, with black beans, mango, avocado & grilled chicken. Violet and Mike add tomatoes, and Mike adds lots of other stuff too, but the kids LOVE it. Plus, it is loads cheaper than ‘real’ QDoba.
Hayden ate awesomely and Violet wasn’t too shabby either. During dinner, Hayden decided to tell us a story:
Here’s the dialogue:
“Once upon a time, there was a scary monster. The end.”
What a cute kiddo!
I'm glad he left out the sordid details. It would have been too much! Grammy
OK – I know this is Hayden's story – but what is the deal with Violet??? Grammy
Haha. Yeah, Hayden isn't big on details – yet anyway. And with Violet, I have no idea. As you are aware, dinner time can be crazy. It was probably nothing more than "give me attention!" I think they were both insistent on watching the video as soon as I took it. (It took a few tries…)
