What a Weekend! (Part 3)

The weekend at Great Wolf Lodge to celebrate Hayden and Violet’s birthdays was full of ups and downs (literally and figuratively.)  You can check out the events leading up to this post in the Prequal, Part 1, and Part 2 of this series.

Monday morning everyone got up and had microwave omelets in our room while everyone watched PBS kids cartoons.  We got done with breakfast started to get ready to go to the waterpark.

As Libby and I were getting the kids ready, we were talking about how it was a shame that Violet was 41 inches.  I told Violet to put her sandals on so she could get up to 41.5″.  If she was there, I was hoping to sweat talk the lifeguard into letting her ride the big rides.  While getting the kids ready, Libby commented to me that we should have Violet stand on her tip toes.

Once the kids got ready it was time for us to get our suits on.  Karl, Chuck, Stacey, and myself all got our suits on.  Lisa went outside to get hers and found that she only had one piece to her two piece suit.  That night, she put it out on the balcony to dry.  During the night, the wind picked up and blew it to who knows where.  So Lisa could still swim, Libby and Lisa went to Meijer to get a second piece to Lisa’s suit.

While they were off shopping, Karl and I took Hayden and Violet down to the waterpark.  I was watching Hayden as Violet stepped up to the ruler to get measured.  It was the moment of truth.  Would the lifeguard let 41.5″ go down the 42″ slide!?!?!?

As she stepped up to the ruler, I noticed that rather than being 41 or 42 inches, Violet was between 45 and 46!  I knew the sandals added a bit of height, but I didn’t know that much.  Since Violet was “over” 42″ she got the yellow bracelet to allow her to go on all of the rides.

As we walked away, Karl told me that Violet was on her tip toes as high as she could go while she was being measured.  Although I didn’t condone that type of rule bending, I did enjoy that Violet was able to go down the slide.  Violet managed to go down the big slides at least 15 times with Chuck, Stacey, Libby, myself, and Karl and Lisa as can be seen below.

We played until 12:30.  Then we got showered and went to lunch at Applebee’s.  We decided to go to Applebee’s because Karl and Lisa got free coupons since their dinners were messed up the previous night.  Libby and I were leery about going since it was so late and Hayden and Violet were so tired, but they both did really well at the restaurant.
It started off stressful with almost losing a kid, having them both sick, and taking one to urgent care.  We took a gamble and decided to still head up to Great Wolf Lodge.  As it turned out, it was a great gamble indeed.  Not only did the kids have a blast, but everyone who went did too.  If there is any color commentary that I missed or special moments that anyone had feel free to comment on any of the posts in this series.

  1. Thanks for making the time to do these updates. These are really great. I read them over and over again – and smile every time! Grammy

  2. We love being able to share all of this with you (and everyone else). I'm glad you enjoy these – we hope this will be around long enough for the kids to be able to enjoy it as well!

  3. Oh, and one think that Mike didn't mention is that I ended up taking Hayden to the Dr on Tuesday when we got back – he has a dbl ear infection too. He's getting better now… finally!!

  4. In retrospect, methinks "rule bending" skips a generation – she does come by it honestly,I'm proud to say!!! Grammy
