Lessons from Violet

In the morning while I get ready for work, the kids have their “pre-breakfast” snack. This morning, Hayden and Violet were sitting at the table while I was in the bathroom fixing up my hair.

Moments later after hearing them serve themselves some additional cereal, Violet lets out a blood curdling scream. Since she overreacts about most things, I went out to see at my own pace. She is screaming that her foot is stuck in the chair (between the slats on the back).

Me: Violet, calm down.
Violet: NOOOOO! IT’S STUCK! HEEEEELLLLLLP! (excessive crying and screaming continues)
Me: It’s okay. You got your foot stuck in there, you can get it out. It’s fine. It’ll be alright.
Violet: NO MOM! NO IT’S NOT! LIFE DOESN’T WORK THAT WAY! IT’S NOT ALWAYS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT!
Me: Okay, okay. This time, it will be okay. I’ll get it out, but you have to calm down.
Hayden: I can do it! (*begins punching her leg*)

Her leg/foot came out easily, even with Hayden’s help.

Not sure where she gets this profound wisdom about life, especially considering so far everything really has been alright, but that’s okay. I could prove to her that I’ll at least try make it alright.
