Fire

A couple of nights back while Libby was on her run Violet was worried about fire getting her in our house.  She was worried that fire would come from the furnace up through the vents and get her in her room.  We talked about how the furnace was safe and that fire needs heat oxygen and fuel to get started.  This seemed to placate her for a bit, but her mind kept thinking and then she was asking about all sorts of things starting on fire.  She got so worked up that she started crying.

Realizing that logic was not working, I decided to break out the candles and lighter.  I lit the candle and had her and Hayden blow it out.  After we did this for about 20 times she started to get a little bit better.  To make sure we kept moving in the right direction, we started doing more experiments.  We put candles out using a glass and then we started looking at things that burned and things that didn’t burn.  Below are a couple of pictures of Hayden and Violet starting tooth picks on fire and then dousing them in water. Since we had our science experiments, there has been little mention of fire since.
