Explosions in the sky

Some nights I love bedtime, even when all I want is them to fall asleep:

Hayden: Mom, I’m tired of this thunder. Make it stop.
Me: I can’t make it stop. The storm will pass, just close your eyes.
Hayden: Thunder is awful. I hate thunder. I’m scared of thunder.
Me: Just close your eyes, thunder is just sound and there’s nothing to be scared of.
Hayden: Thunder hurts. It does, for REAL.
Me: No, thunder doesn’t hurt you, it just the sound you hear after lightening.
Hayden: Lightening is e-lec-tri-ci-teeeee and it can make you explode. Is thunder the sound of people exploding? I told you it hurts. It hurts to explode. Will I explode?
Me: No. Just close your eyes.
Hayden: Ugh, closing my eyes doesn’t make thunder go away, you should say ‘close your ears.’ Silly mommy.

It didn’t take too long before Hayden fell asleep. I missed these kids to pieces and I’m so glad to be home.
